The CA-7 refers to an aircraft manufactured by Commonwealth Aircraft Corporation (CAC). CAC was foundational to Australian aviation history, established in 1936 to provide Australia with an independent capability for aircraft production. During World War II, CAC manufactured vital aircraft, including the Wirraway, to meet the demands of the Royal Australian Air Force. The company successfully undertook both license-building and original design projects, establishing a precedent for local aerospace manufacturing.
The Wirraway, powered by a 600 hp Pratt & Whitney R-1340 radial engine, was a two-seat, low-wing monoplane. Designed primarily as a general-purpose military trainer, it was adapted for various roles including dive-bombing and light attack. Its robust design allowed for a maximum speed of 220 mph (354 km/h).
A variety of platforms and access solutions are utilized to support this aircraft. For comprehensive access to the nose section (including the engine and cockpit windshield), platforms like the Reach Deck Platform and Modular Stepover Platforms are effective. For servicing the wing and engine pylon areas—addressing elements like the engine body, fan, and hydraulics—Super Maintenance Platform and Cantilever Platform units offer crucial height and reach. Maintenance access to the main landing gear (MLG) and the forward fuselage (cargo/baggage and cabin access) is facilitated by the Ultraraise and Super Service Stand. Specialized platforms, such as the Branach Fibreglass Platform and Platform Ladder Warthog, are instrumental for detailed work on the tail section, specifically the vertical and horizontal stabilizers, and the rudder.
