CA-18

The CA-18 Mustang is a version of the iconic North American P-51 Mustang fighter aircraft, manufactured under license by Commonwealth Aircraft Corporation (CAC). CAC produced the CA-18 (Mk 21–23) in the final stages of World War II. While too late for combat, the aircraft participated in the Occupation of Japan following VJ-Day.

The CA-18 Mk 21, the first model in this series, first flew on April 29, 1945. Subsequent models, like the 66 Mustang Mk 23s, were equipped with British-built Rolls-Royce Merlin engines. CAC also built 14 reconnaissance aircraft, the Mustang Mk 22s, featuring F24 cameras. This Australian manufacturing effort allowed for a domestic supply of high-performance aircraft. The CA-18 served with the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) until 1959.

To support the maintenance and access needs of this aircraft, a variety of platforms and access solutions are utilized. These products, such as Modular Stepover Platforms and Cantilever Platforms, address access challenges in areas like the Wing & Engine Pylon section for work on the engine (Inlet/Exhaust) and hydraulics. Sturdy Super Maintenance Platforms are also employed for general access across the fuselage, including the Tail Section, for servicing the Vertical Stabiliser and Horizontal Stabiliser. Specialized stands aid access to the Landing Gear, enabling maintenance on the Nose Landing Gear and Main Landing Gear.
