The C-38A Courier is a twin-engine jet aircraft, a military designation of the Gulfstream G100 (formerly known as the Astra SPX). The United States Air Force ordered the G100 in 1997, and the C-38A served as a transport and utility aircraft, replacing the Learjet C-21. Today, a derivative of the C-38 (known as the C-38 Courier) is used by the Navy as a test and evaluation chase aircraft.
Gulfstream traces its history back to Grumman Aircraft Engineering Co., which produced the Gulfstream I turboprop business aircraft in 1958. Grumman later sold the civil aircraft division, which evolved through several ownership changes until General Dynamics acquired the company, establishing it as a foundational manufacturer of high-performance business jets. Gulfstream Aerospace is known for its wide range of large-cabin aircraft and continues to be an innovative force in business aviation.
