The Bell Boeing V-22 Osprey is a tiltrotor military aircraft, combining the vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) capabilities of a helicopter with the speed and range of a fixed-wing aircraft. This hybrid design allows it to execute long-range transport and combat missions with unparalleled flexibility.
The aircraft is manufactured by Bell Boeing, a joint program between Bell Textron Inc. and Boeing. The collaboration was formed to develop this unique platform. The V-22 program began with the aircraft’s first flight in March 1989. Following extensive development and testing, full-rate production was granted in September 2005. The MV-22B variant achieved Initial Operating Capability (IOC) in June 2007 and had its combat debut in October 2007. The CV-22 variant achieved IOC in March 2009. The V-22 program has accumulated significant flight hours, surpassing 400,000 flight hours by November 2017.
A comprehensive array of working platforms and access solutions are necessary for maintaining the V-22. These include platforms for accessing the Nose Section, including the radome and windshield. Access to the Wing & Engine Pylon is critical for servicing the dual engines, fans, compressors, and hydraulic systems. Specialized stands are also utilized for the AFT Fuselage, including the APU compartments, and for detailed maintenance of the Landing Gear. These maintenance aids ensure thorough access across all sections of this complex tiltrotor.
