AW149

The AW149 is a modern, medium multi-role military helicopter developed and manufactured by the Italian global high-technology company Leonardo (formerly Finmeccanica and AgustaWestland). Leonardo is a major player in aerospace, defense, and security, known for a wide portfolio of products including helicopters, aircraft, and defense systems.

The AW149 was developed from the AgustaWestland AW139, with its first flight taking place on November 13, 2009, and entering production in 2009. It is designed to meet the operational demands of contemporary armed forces, offering high performance and survivability.

This versatile platform is optimized for a multitude of battlefield missions, such as troop transport, re-supply, medical and casualty evacuation (MEDEVAC/CASEVAC), Search and Rescue (SAR), special forces operations, and reconnaissance. Its large, rapidly reconfigurable cabin can accommodate up to 19 troops with light equipment or 16 combat-laden troops.

Common locations and primary users of the AW149 include the Egyptian Navy, the Royal Thai Army, and the Polish Army, demonstrating its role as a key military asset across different regions for various multi-role operations.
