The AW119 MKII is a single-engine utility helicopter, an improved variant of the original A119 Koala. It is known for achieving high productivity among single-engine aircraft, while retaining the safety benefits of redundant main systems, a feature usually associated with light twin-engine helicopters. The AW119 MkII features redesigned rotors, enhanced payload capacity, and improved fuel efficiency, with a maximum take-off weight of 2,850 kg. This aircraft is highly flexible, serving missions from Emergency Medical Services (EMS) to law enforcement and executive transport.
The helicopter is produced by Leonardo, a foundational aerospace and defense company. Leonardo traces its roots back to the establishment of Finmeccanica in Rome in 1948. Through a series of mergers and acquisitions, the company solidified its position in the aviation sector, notably forming AgustaWestland in 2000 and acquiring full ownership in 2004. The entire conglomerate was consolidated into a single entity in 2016, and rebranded as Leonardo S.p.A. in 2017.
A range of platforms and access solutions are utilized for thorough maintenance across this aircraft. Specialized stands and decks are indispensable for detailed work on the Nose Section (including the Radome, Antennas, and Avionics) and the Landing Gear areas. Elevated platforms ensure access to the Wing and Engine Pylon, enabling access to the Engine body, Fan, and Turbines. Other access systems support maintenance on the Forward Fuselage (for Cabin Access and Environmental Control System) and the Tail Section (for the Vertical and Horizontal Stabilizers).
