An-2 Colt

The An-2 Colt is a single-engine biplane designed by the Antonov Design Bureau. Its first flight was in August 1947, marking the beginning of a production and operational history spanning over four decades, with over 18,000 units manufactured. It is recognized for its longevity and short takeoff and landing (STOL) capabilities, used widely by the Soviet Air Force and Eastern Bloc forces.

Antonov Company was founded in 1946 by Oleg Antonov. Initially established in Novosibirsk, the company relocated to Kyiv, Ukrainian SSR (now Ukraine). The organization specializes in large and heavy airplanes and aircraft designed for unprepared runways, building approximately 22,000 aircraft in total.

Maintenance of the An-2 requires specialized height access solutions. A range of platforms support access to essential sections, including the Nose Section (radome, avionics, cockpit), the Forward Fuselage (Main Entry Door, cargo access, lighting systems, Environmental Control System), and the Landing Gear (Nose and Main Landing Gear). Access platforms are also vital for the Middle Fuselage/Wing Box Area, especially for fuel tanks and oil maintenance, as well as the Wing & Engine Pylon area, allowing detailed work on the engine body, fan, and hydraulics. The AFT Fuselage and Tail Section (empennage, stabilisers, rudder) also necessitate sturdy, dedicated access equipment.
