The AL60/A1 aircraft, manufactured by AERONAUTICA MACCHI S.P.A., is a utility platform developed from the Aermacchi AL-60 design. The “60” designation originated from its U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) type certification in 1960. While Lockheed built only two initial prototypes, the aircraft achieved success through licensing and manufacturing by various companies worldwide, including in Italy by AERONAUTICA MACCHI S.P.A. The design was recognized for its sturdy qualities, contributing to its role as a versatile, export-oriented utility platform in post-war aviation. Global production, across all variants and manufacturers, is estimated at approximately 180 units, with military variants exceeding 50 units for utility operations, particularly in Africa. Production ceased by the late 1970s.
Access solutions like the Reach Deck Platform, Modular Stepover Platforms, Super Trestle Scaffold, and Super Maintenance Platform provide safe working heights for the AL60/A1. These solutions are suitable for maintenance across multiple sections. For instance, cantilever platforms and bridge decks offer clearance over cowlings or wings for servicing the Wing & Engine Pylon section, addressing needs around the engine, fuel pumps, and anti-ice systems.
Adjustable access solutions, such as the Ultraraise and Easyraise stands, are ideal for maintenance on lower sections like the Landing Gear (NLG + MLG) and the Forward Fuselage for wheel well access. Platform ladders and A Frame Aviation Platforms ensure access to the Tail Section for work on the Vertical Stabiliser and Horizontal Stabiliser. Specialized trolleys are used for handling chocks and cones during movement and positioning.
