AH-1Z Viper

The AH-1Z Viper is an attack helicopter developed for the United States Marine Corps as a part of the H-1 upgrade program. This aircraft is an evolution of the Bell AH-1 SuperCobra, featuring enhanced survivability, improved avionics, and greater versatility to perform missions like close-air support, anti-armor, and aerial reconnaissance. Key upgrades include a four-bladed main rotor system which reduces vibrations, advanced avionics, and a more effective target sighting system. Its first flight occurred in December 2000, and it entered production shortly thereafter.

Bell, the foundational aircraft manufacturer, has a history of innovation dating back to its role in assembling B-29s during World War II and pioneering the jet age with the P-59 Airacomet in 1942. The company made an indispensable mark on aviation by hiring Arthur M. Young to lead its helicopter research and development, resulting in aircraft like the Bell 47 and the Huey family. Today, the manufacturer continues this tradition of developing paramount vertical lift aircraft for military and commercial operations.
