AH-1W SuperCobra

The AH-1W SuperCobra, a heavy-duty attack helicopter, was a backbone of Marine Corps air power. Developed by Bell in the 1980s as part of the Twin Cobra program, the AH-1W modernized the platform with enhanced firepower, survivability, and night-fighting capabilities. This twin-engine rotorcraft evolved from the single-engined AH-1 Cobra, which was created in the mid-1960s as an interim gunship for the U.S. Army. The SuperCobra was introduced in 1986 and was retired from U.S. Marine Corps service in 2020.

Bell Helicopter Textron, Inc., the manufacturer, has an extensive history in aviation, specifically in the design and production of helicopters. The company’s foundational work led to the development of the original AH-1 Cobra, which participated in combat operations in Vietnam. Bell’s Twin Cobra program further advanced this lineage, culminating in the AH-1W.

A range of platforms and access solutions are available for servicing this aircraft. For the Nose Section (radome, avionics, cockpit), solutions like Cantilever Platforms and Modular Stepover Platforms provide detailed access. Sturdy Super Trestle Scaffold and Super Service Stand are helpful for the Wing & Engine Pylon section, supporting work on the engine body, fan, and hydraulics. For maintenance on the Landing Gear, a Platform Ladder Warthog or Easyraise can be ideal. General access across the fuselage areas can be achieved using products such as Reach Deck Platform and Bridge Deck.
