The A400M Atlas is a multi-national, four-engine turboprop military transport aircraft. Its development roots trace back to the 1982 Future International Military Airlifter (FIMA) group, a collaborative effort by major European aerospace firms aiming to develop a common replacement for aging transport planes. This initiative eventually coalesced under the leadership of Airbus, the aircraft’s current manufacturer.
