The A330 Multi-Role Tanker Transport (MRTT), designated KC-30A in Australian service, is a military aerial refuelling and transport aircraft. It is a derivative of the commercial Airbus A330 airliner. The A330 MRTT program was initiated by Airbus Military, which is now part of Airbus Defence and Space. The development built upon the success of the A330 wide-body platform, leveraging its fuel capacity and operational efficiency for military use.
The KC-30A is equipped with two forms of air-to-air refuelling systems: an Advanced Refuelling Boom System on the tail and a pair of all-electric refuelling pods under the wings. In its transport configuration, it is capable of carrying up to 270 passengers and 34,000 kilograms of cargo in under-floor compartments. The maximum take-off weight of the aircraft is 233 tonnes, and it has a range of 14,800 kilometers, powered by two General Electric CF6-80E1A3 engines.
A range of access solutions can be used for maintenance across this airframe. These include Reach Deck Platforms, Modular Stepover Platforms, heavy-duty Super Trestle Scaffold, Ultraraise, Super Service Stand, Easyraise, Bridge Deck, Cantilever Platforms, Aviation Chock and Cone Trolleys, Super Maintenance Platforms, Branach Fibreglass Platforms, A Frame Aviation Platforms, and Platform Ladder Warthogs. These systems are used to facilitate maintenance across all critical aircraft sections, including the Nose Section (radome, avionics, and cockpit), the Forward Fuselage (doors, cargo, and environmental control systems), Landing Gear bays, the Middle Fuselage/Wing Box Area (fuel tanks and oil maintenance), the Wing & Engine Pylon (engine components, hydraulics, and fuel systems), the AFT Fuselage (bulkhead, cargo, and APU compartments), and the Tail Section (stabilisers and rudder).
