The 690-B aircraft is part of the Rockwell Turbo Commander series, a line of pressurized business and executive turboprops. This series began production in 1965 as a pressurized version of the Grand Commander, engineered for high performance. The 690-B model is powered by twin turboprops, such as the 522 kw (700 shp) Garrett AiResearch TPE 331-5 engines, providing high speed and efficiency for up to seven occupants. The aircraft is known for its spacious cabin and sturdy design, making it a reliable transport globally.
Rockwell International, the manufacturer, was a major American manufacturing conglomerate formed through a series of mergers, including the aerospace company North American Aviation and Rockwell-Standard. Its involvement in the Commander aircraft lineage came through the acquisition of Aero Commander. Rockwell International became a significant producer of business and utility aircraft, ensuring the Turbo Commander series maintained a strong reputation for innovation and build quality.
