600N

The McDonnell Douglas 600N is a light utility helicopter known for its unique NOTAR (No Tail Rotor) system, which replaces the conventional tail rotor for anti-torque control, significantly reducing noise and improving safety. This aircraft is an extended derivative of the MD 520N, featuring a stretched fuselage and an additional rotor blade, increasing capacity to eight people.

The helicopter’s lineage traces back to McDonnell Douglas, a foundational aerospace manufacturer formed by the 1967 merger of Douglas Aircraft Company and McDonnell Aircraft. Although primarily known for fixed-wing aircraft like the F-15 Eagle and commercial airliners, the company entered the helicopter market by acquiring Hughes Helicopters in 1984. This division later became MD Helicopters. The 600N was introduced in the mid-1990s and demonstrated the company’s commitment to innovative rotorcraft design before McDonnell Douglas was acquired by Boeing in 1997.

To service the 600N, various access platforms are necessary for detailed maintenance. Platforms and stands are used for thorough access to the Nose Section, including avionics and the cockpit area, as well as the Landing Gear during inspections and repairs. Access solutions support work around the Middle Fuselage and its internal systems, and are indispensable for Engine maintenance, ensuring technicians can reach the inlet, exhaust, and turbine components. Specialized platforms also facilitate access to the Tail Section (Empennage) for work on the Vertical and Horizontal Stabilisers.
