The Aero Commander 500-B is a light twin-engined transport aircraft. Its manufacturer, Aero Commander, was founded in 1944 in Culver City, California. The company was formed by Ted Smith, a former project engineer at Douglas Aircraft Company, who assembled 14 engineers to design the original Aero Commander aircraft. Preliminary design for the aircraft began in 1946.
