The ATR 42-600 is a turboprop aircraft produced by ATR, a manufacturer established as a joint venture between French aerospace company Aerospatiale (now Airbus) and Italian firm Aeritalia (now Leonardo S.p.A.). This collaboration began its history in the early 1980s, driven by the need for an efficient regional airliner.
The 42-600 model builds upon the foundation of earlier ATR variants, such as the -500. Innovative features include the adoption of improved PW127M engines and a new glass cockpit. The prototype first flew on March 4, 2010.
