The 415-D is a variant of the ERCO Ercoupe, an innovative two-seat light aircraft designed with safety in mind. The Engineering and Research Corporation (ERCO) introduced the Ercoupe in 1940, with the 415-D model being part of the successful production run. Pre-war 415-C Ercoupes used 65 hp Continental engines; the 415-D and subsequent post-war Ercoupes were often powered by a 75 hp Continental C75-12 engine, contributing to a maximum takeoff weight of 1,260 lb.
ERCO, founded in 1930, was a foundational aerospace manufacturer. They launched the Ercoupe to offer a simplified flight control design, eliminating rudder pedals and coordinating aileron and rudder inputs for spin-proof characteristics. After initial pre-war production, the aircraft experienced significant popularity post-World War II. The 415-D represents a durable piece of aviation history, still valued for its unique design.
Maintenance access for this aircraft is supported by a variety of specialized platforms and stands. A reach deck platform, modular stepover platforms, and scaffold can provide access for maintenance related to the Fuselage, Wing Box Area (including fuel tanks and oil maintenance), and the Tail Section (stabilizers, rudder).
For engine-related tasks, such as those on the Wing & Engine Pylon (e.g., engine body, fan, undereowl), maintenance stands like the super service stand or super maintenance platform are ideal for technicians.
Specific tasks on the Landing Gear, such as the nose or main landing gear, benefit from the precision of these access solutions. General access requirements across the airframe can be met using bridge decks, cantilever platforms, and aviation platforms and ladders, ensuring a strong and dependable working height for all detailed maintenance.
