36A

The Learjet 36A is an evolution of Bill Lear’s foundational Lear 23, which first flew in 1963. The 36A, manufactured by GATES Learjet, features a crucial design advantage: an increased fuel capacity compared to its Learjet 35 sibling, trading passenger capacity for extended range. The original Learjet 36 was certified in July 1974, and the enhanced 36A model, with upgraded engines and a higher maximum gross weight (18,300 lbs.), was introduced in 1976, replacing the earlier version.

GATES Learjet’s history stems from the pioneering vision of Bill Lear, who established the company to produce the first modern business jet. Following the initial success of the Model 23, the company saw various ownership changes, eventually becoming Gates Learjet Corporation in 1970.

A wide array of platforms and access solutions are utilized around the 36A for maintenance. For the Nose Section, Modular Stepover Platforms and Cantilever Platforms provide access for work on the radome, antenna, and windshield. For the Forward Fuselage, including the entry door and cargo, Reach Deck Platforms and Bridge Deck products ensure safe access. Main Landing Gear and Nose Landing Gear maintenance utilize Super Service Stands.

For the Middle Fuselage and Wing Box areas, access solutions address fuel tank maintenance and cabin interior work. Maintenance platforms and stands are indispensable for the Wing and Engine Pylon, allowing detailed access to components like the engine inlet/exhaust, fan, and turbine sections. Specific platforms also support technicians working on the AFT Fuselage—targeting rear avionics and Auxiliary Power Unit (APU) compartments—and the Tail Section, facilitating maintenance on the vertical and horizontal stabilizers.
