The 369D, also known commercially as the Hughes 500D, is a multi-purpose, single-engine helicopter. This model is characterized by its fully articulated five-blade main rotor system, offering improved performance over earlier variants. It is frequently noted for its sturdy design and utility in various roles. Powered by a Rolls-Royce 250-C20B engine generating 420 shp, the helicopter has a maximum take-off weight of 3,000 lbs (1,360 kg) with an internal load.
Hughes Helicopters DIV – SUMMA was part of a major evolution of the aerospace company founded by Howard Hughes. The helicopter manufacturing entity began as a unit of Hughes Aircraft in 1947. After 1955, it became part of the Hughes Tool Company. In 1972, when Hughes sold the tool division, his remaining interests, including the aircraft division, were transferred to the newly formed holding company, Summa Corporation. The unit became the Hughes Helicopter Division, Summa Corporation, until it was reformed as Hughes Helicopters, Inc. in 1981.
A selection of access platforms and stands is indispensable for detailed maintenance on the 369D. Platforms like the Reach Deck Platform and Modular Stepover Platforms can provide essential access for the Nose Section components, including the radome, antennas, and avionics. The Super Service Stand and Easyraise facilitate access to the engine and pylon components, such as the inlet/exhaust, fan, and hydraulics. For the Tail Section, including the vertical and horizontal stabilizers and rudder, tall access solutions like the Super Trestle Scaffold or Cantilever Platform are highly effective. For the Landing Gear, a Platform Ladder is sufficient for detailed inspections and maintenance of both the Nose Landing Gear and Main Landing Gear.
