269C

The 269C is a foundational light utility helicopter, representing a major evolution of the successful Hughes Model 269 series. It is a highly capable aircraft favored for flight training, surveillance, and agricultural operations due to its simple, yet sturdy design and manageable operating costs. The C model significantly improved performance over earlier variants with a larger diameter rotor system and a more powerful engine.

The history of its manufacturer, Hughes Helicopters, is intertwined with aviation pioneer Howard Hughes. The company began developing the Model 269 in the 1950s, leading to the introduction of the civil version in 1961. The 269C variant was produced by Hughes Helicopters Division, which was part of the Summa Corporation at the time. After a history of innovation and development, the lineage of this aircraft eventually passed to Schweizer Aircraft and then to Sikorsky, ensuring its continued presence in the light helicopter market.
