Vertol Aircraft

Vertol Aircraft refers to what was originally the Piasecki Helicopter Corporation, founded by Frank Piasecki. After Piasecki was ousted in 1956, the company was renamed Vertol Corporation. Vertol was a significant helicopter manufacturer known for pioneering tandem rotor designs. In 1960, Vertol was acquired by Boeing and renamed Boeing Vertol. Historical products associated with this entity include the Vertol 44 (H-21 Shawnee/Workhorse) and the Vertol 107 (CH-46 Sea Knight). Its legacy continued as Boeing Vertol developed the CH-47 Chinook, one of the world’s most enduring and widely used heavy-lift helicopters, which is still in service today.
