Consolidated Vultee Aircraft

Consolidated Vultee Aircraft Corporation (Convair) was an aircraft manufacturing company formed in 1943 by the merger of Consolidated Aircraft and Vultee Aircraft corporations. The company specialized in developing and producing military aircraft and guided missiles. Historically, they were known for producing more B-24 Liberator bombers and PBY Catalina patrol bombers than any other U.S. corporation during the war, and were the first to install 2,000-horsepower engines in heavy aircraft (such as the Model 31 flying boat). Convair eventually became part of General Dynamics Corporation’s Convair division in 1954. As a result, the current organization is defunct under the original name and has no current products.
