The B787 Nose Landing Gear Access is methodically engineered to provide safe, comprehensive, and efficient access for personnel performing foundational maintenance and inspection procedures on the Boeing B787 Nose Landing Gear (NLG) area. Tailored specifically for the B787, this solution ensures first-class positioning and a secure work environment directly at the heart of the NLG wheel well, addressing critical maintenance zones that demand close attention. This platform represents our commitment to Safety First, ensuring every technician works securely and productively at height.
The platform’s primary function is to create a stabilized, elevated work deck that allows maintenance technicians to safely service, inspect, and repair components within the NLG bay. Due to the high clearance and intricate nature of the B787’s landing gear system, standard maintenance practices require dedicated access equipment. This platform solves that need by allowing technicians to reach all exposed portions of the nose landing gear inner cylinders, sliding surfaces, and associated mechanical and hydraulic systems.
This accessibility is indispensable for tasks such as cleaning contaminants, fluid checks (like MIL-PRF-5606 fluid applications), general upkeep, and detailed structural inspections as mandated by the aircraft’s maintenance program (e.g., MPD 32-030-00). We collaborate with industry partners to ensure the design meets the highest standards of safety and usability.
The design integrates seamlessly with the aircraft structure. When positioned for use, the platform often utilizes the opened NLG doors to establish additional edge protection, maximizing safety and minimizing the risk of damage to sensitive aircraft parts. It provides a stable work area paramount for critical tasks within the confined space of the wheel well, allowing for focused and precise maintenance operations. This focus on practical, effective design highlights our Efficient value, saving technicians time and making complex tasks simpler.
The structure is built for rigorous operational demands and user safety. Innovative features include Modular and Removable Access Points. The platform features removable steps on the upper levels, providing additional, customizable access to varying heights and hard-to-reach NLG components. This adaptability ensures all areas of the maintenance zone are accessible without compromising safety.
A Removable Slot Cover and Infill Tray allows technicians to infill the working area, increasing the usable deck space and overall working envelope inside the wheel well, ensuring a continuous, non-slip work surface. Integrated Step Units, which are removable steps measuring approximately 450mm x 450mm x 300mm, offer flexible and strong supplementary access points. Optional height-adjustable guardrails provide indispensable fall protection, conforming to different maintenance task requirements and ensuring personnel safety while working at elevation near the aircraft structure.
Ergonomic Access is provided via a 45° Stair Access system, equipped with Grip Tread Nosings to minimize slip hazards and facilitate easy, frequent movement onto and off the B787 Nose Landing Gear Access platform. The unit is highly maneuverable on the hangar floor, featuring 200mm Swivel Braked Castors. Once in position, the Lever Brake system ensures the platform is secured firmly against any movement during active maintenance operations, providing a static, reliable base.
The platform is supplied with protective systems (e.g., a “No Bolt protection system”) to mitigate the risk of accidental damage to the delicate surfaces and systems of the Boeing 787 airframe during positioning and use. This dedicated access solution ensures that maintenance of the Boeing B787 Nose Landing Gear is performed with maximum safety, stability, and efficiency, directly supporting the aircraft’s airworthiness and operational readiness.
