WC-135 Constant Phoenix

The WC-135 Constant Phoenix is an atmospheric collection aircraft, designed to gather air samples for evidence of nuclear detonations. This specialized mission supports international commitments, such as the Limited Nuclear Test Ban Treaty of 1963. The WC-135 aircraft is a modified C-135B or EC-135C platform.

The aircraft is manufactured by Boeing, a foundational aerospace contractor. Boeing was established in 1916 and has a long history of producing essential military and commercial aircraft. The WC-135 traces its lineage back to the C-135 Stratolifter, and it was introduced in December 1965. Over the years, fourteen airframes have been converted for the Constant Phoenix role, including conversions from KC-135R, C-135B, and EC-135C models. As of today, a small inventory of these aircraft remains in service with the United States Air Force.
