U-28A

The U-28A Draco is a militarized intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) aircraft, adapted from the Pilatus PC-12. This single-engine turboprop was first procured by U.S. Special Operations Command (SOCOM) in October 2005 for operational support. The U-28A is valued for its ability to operate from remote and austere semi-prepared airfields, providing crucial real-time full-motion video and ISR capabilities globally.

Pilatus Aircraft Ltd., the Swiss builder of the U-28A, is known for producing sturdy and reliable aircraft, particularly single-engine turboprops. Pilatus was founded in 1939 and established its reputation by developing military and utility aircraft, leading to the highly successful PC-12 platform from which the U-28A is derived. The PC-12 first flew in 1991 and has since become one of the world’s best-selling turboprops.

A variety of platforms and access solutions are utilized to support thorough maintenance on the U-28A, addressing needs across the entire airframe. These tools facilitate access for maintenance on critical areas like the Nose Section (avionics, radome), Landing Gear (NLG and MLG), the Wing and Engine Pylon (engine, anti-ice systems, hydraulics), and the Tail Section (stabilizers and rudder). These systems are indispensable for maintaining the operational efficiency of the aircraft.
