Tu-214PU

The Tu-214PU, with “PU” denoting “Flying Command Post,” is a specialized version of the Tu-214 twin-engine narrow-body jet airliner. These aircraft are equipped with advanced communications and control equipment, serving a critical role for the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation. It is powered by two PS-90A turbofan engines. The aircraft has a cruising speed of 850 km/h and a range of 6,500 km.

The manufacturer is the foundational Russian aerospace design bureau, OKB Tupolev (now part of United Aircraft Corporation). Tupolev’s history began in 1922, founded by Andrey Tupolev. The bureau is known for pioneering both strategic military aircraft, like the famous Tu-95, and commercial airliners, such as the Tu-154 and the Tu-204/214 series. The Tu-214, the base airframe for the Tu-214PU, is a development of the Tu-204.

Production of the Tu-214PU is limited, with sources indicating that around three to six units have been manufactured and delivered. The program is part of Tupolev’s continuing efforts to provide modern, versatile platforms for government and military use, ensuring strategic connectivity and control from the air.

For maintenance and access to key aircraft sections, versatile platforms and stands are indispensable. Modular stepover platforms and cantilever platforms can provide access to high areas, such as the tail section, including the APU and stabilizers. Platform ladders and access solutions, such as super maintenance platforms, are ideal for servicing the nose section (radome, avionics, windshield) and the forward fuselage. For the wing and engine pylon area, including the inlet/exhaust, specialized trestle scaffold and elevated stands support detailed work on components like the fan, compressor, and hydraulics. The varied fleet of specialized access equipment ensures comprehensive coverage for maintenance needs across the landing gear, middle fuselage, and aft fuselage sections.
