The SA226-T(B), part of the Merlin series of turboprop-powered business aircraft, is an evolution in the lineage that eventually led to the widely used Metroliner regional airliner. Fairchild, the manufacturer, began its history by acquiring Swearingen Aircraft in 1971. The SA226-T Merlin III was developed from earlier designs, and the subsequent stretching of this airframe resulted in the SA226-TC Metro, an aircraft designed to seat up to 22 passengers.
