MiG-29SD

The MiG-29SD is an upgraded variant of the foundational MiG-29 Fulcrum, a twin-engine air superiority and multirole fighter. The SD designation typically refers to an export modification used to enhance the existing fleet, as seen in the upgrade of Malaysia’s MiG-29s. These aircraft feature the original MiG-29 spine and are often equipped with an optional bolt-on refueling probe for extended range. This modernization effort ensured the continued operational relevance of the fourth-generation fighter.

The aircraft was developed and produced by Mikoyan, historically referred to as Mig/Migavia, a renowned Soviet and later Russian aircraft design bureau. The original MiG-29 first flew in 1977 and entered service in 1983, becoming an indispensable fighter for the Eastern Bloc and numerous export clients globally. Its design originated from the Soviet response to advanced US fighter programs in the late 1960s. The enduring design has seen continuous development and upgrades, leading to successful variants like the MiG-29SD.

To support this fighter, a selection of platforms and access solutions is available for maintenance. These include Reach Deck Platforms, Modular Stepover Platforms, heavy-duty Super Trestle Scaffold, and Super Maintenance Stands. This equipment provides access for detailed inspections and methodical maintenance across the aircraft, including the Nose Section (Radome, Antenna, Avionics) and the Wing & Engine Pylon area (Engine Inlet/Exhaust, Compressor, Turbine, and Hydraulics). Bridge Decks and Cantilever Platforms are instrumental for accessing the Tail Section (Vertical and Horizontal Stabilisers) and other complex surfaces.
