FU-24 STALLION

The FU-24 STALLION is an important aircraft, foundational to New Zealand’s aerial application industry. It began as the Fletcher FU-24, designed in the United States by John W. Thorp and manufactured by the Fletcher Aviation Corporation. The aircraft was one of the earliest designs specifically for aerial topdressing, a critical agricultural method in New Zealand.

The manufacturing history saw a significant shift to New Zealand. After initial import, local production was handled by various entities, culminating in Airparts (NZ) Ltd. which eventually took over the rights and continued production and development, leading to variants like the FU-24 STALLION. This transition ensured the aircraft’s design could be continuously adapted to local operational demands for heavy-duty utility and topdressing work.

For maintaining the FU-24 STALLION, access solutions are crucial for inspections across multiple sections. Aircraft platforms and stands provide the necessary access for work on the nose section (radome, avionics), the forward fuselage (doors, cabin access), and the landing gear. Complex wing and engine pylon maintenance—involving the engine, hydraulics, and fuel tanks—requires reliable height access. Detailed work on the AFT fuselage and tail section (empennage), including stabilizers and the rudder, is simplified with appropriate staging.
