F4U-5N Corsair

The F4U-5N Corsair is a renowned night-capable fighter-bomber aircraft, a variant of the Vought F4U Corsair series. This model was essential for its performance in roles demanding high speeds and heavy armament, particularly during the Korean War. The F4U Corsair’s long production run, spanning from 1942 to 1953, made it the longest-produced U.S. piston-engined fighter, with over 12,571 units manufactured across 16 models.

Chance Vought Aircraft Co., the primary manufacturer, was founded in 1917 by Chance M. Vought, Robert B. Knowles, and Birdseye Lewis. The company has a foundational history in American naval aviation, notable for producing the VE-7, the first aircraft to successfully launch from a U.S. Navy aircraft carrier. Vought played a paramount role in designing and building high-performance military aircraft, cementing its legacy through continuous innovation and design excellence in the aerospace industry.
