The ERJ 140 is a regional jet aircraft developed and manufactured by Embraer, a leading Brazilian aerospace company. Embraer originated as a government initiative in 1969 to build a national aviation industry. The company grew quickly, achieving international recognition with successful military and civil designs. The ERJ family of twin-engine turbofan jets, including the ERJ 140, was introduced to compete in the regional jet market.
