E-11A

The E-11A is the U.S. Air Force designation for a modified Bombardier BD-700 Global Express business jet, transformed into a high-altitude airborne communications gateway. This platform is foundational to the Battlefield Airborne Communications Node (BACN) mission, which translates and distributes communications among disparate air and surface elements, enhancing situational awareness for joint and coalition forces. The E-11A was first deployed in 2009 for the BACN mission, following a contract with Northrop Grumman for integration and support. The aircraft was officially designated E-11A after the USAF purchased the first leased unit in 2011. Northrop Grumman continues to provide extensive maintenance and logistics support for the fleet.

To maintain the E-11A’s essential operational readiness, various access solutions are necessary for key sections. Products such as the Super Trestle Scaffold, Reach Deck Platform, and Modular Stepover Platforms are important for addressing maintenance needs across the aircraft. For the Wing & Engine Pylon section, access is required for anti-ice systems, engine components, and hydraulics, tasks facilitated by Super Maintenance Platform and Cantilever Platform units. For the Tail Section (Empennage), access to the vertical and horizontal stabilizers, as well as APU components, is addressed through specialized platforms. Landing Gear maintenance (NLG and MLG) requires robust access to support thorough inspections. The Aviation Chock and Cone Trolley provides necessary security during all maintenance. Easyraise and Ultraraise platforms allow first-class reach for general access needs, ensuring maintenance crews can methodically service the aircraft from nose to tail.
