CMV-22 Osprey

The CMV-22 Osprey is the U.S. Navy’s carrier-onboard-delivery variant of the versatile V-22 Osprey tiltrotor aircraft. Developed jointly by Bell and Boeing, the aircraft combines the vertical takeoff, hover, and landing capabilities of a helicopter with the speed and range of a fixed-wing plane. The original V-22 concept was derived from the Bell XV-15, and full-scale development was awarded to the Bell Boeing team by the U.S. Navy in 1986. The V-22 first flew in 1989 and was later fielded in 2007. This tiltrotor design has been continuously manufactured, with over 400 units built as of 2020, serving multiple branches of the U.S. military.
