Cessna Skyhawk

The Cessna Skyhawk, officially the Cessna 172, stands as the most successful aircraft in history, measured by its longevity and production volume of over 44,000 units. Cessna delivered the first production model in 1956. This single-engine aircraft is a foundational four-seat light aircraft known globally as a training and personal transport staple. The model has seen continuous production since 1996 after a brief pause, with modern variants like the Skyhawk R featuring a fuel-injected engine.

Cessna Aircraft was founded on September 7, 1927, by Clyde Cessna and Victor Roos in Wichita, Kansas. Clyde Cessna, a pioneer in American aviation, first flew his own aircraft in 1911. Throughout the post-World War II era, Cessna was recognized as one of the “Big Three” in general aviation manufacturing. The company later became well-known for its Citation family of business jets.
