AH-64

The AH-64 Apache is the world’s most advanced, proven attack helicopter, primarily manufactured by Boeing Defense, Space & Security. Its history dates back to the U.S. Army’s Advanced Attack Helicopter program to replace the AH-1 Cobra, beginning as the Model 77 developed by Hughes Helicopters. The prototype, YAH-64, first flew on September 30, 1975.

McDonnell Douglas continued production and development after acquiring Hughes Helicopters in 1984, and the helicopter was introduced to U.S. Army service in April 1986. Boeing continued production after acquiring McDonnell Douglas in 1997. The AH-64D Apache Longbow was a significant advancement, with the first production model delivered in 1997. The AH-64E Apache is the most advanced multi-role combat helicopter variant today.

Boeing has delivered over 2,700 AH-64 Apache attack helicopters to the U.S. Army and a growing number of international defense forces. American Apaches have served in conflicts in Panama, the Persian Gulf, Kosovo, Afghanistan, and Iraq. The helicopter is widely used around the world by customers including Israel, the UK, the Netherlands, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Greece, India, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Kuwait, Qatar, Singapore, and the United Arab Emirates.
