The Aero Commander 500-A is a twin-engine utility monoplane, part of the enduring 500 family introduced by Aero Commander. The 500-A model specifically features new nacelles, fuel-injected Continental engines, and new landing gear, receiving approval in 1960. This aircraft is known for its stability, ease of handling, and spacious cabin, making it ideal for various missions.
Aero Commander was established in 1944 by Rufus Travis Amis and Ted Smith to design a light twin-engined transport aircraft. The prototype first flew in April 1948. The company operated as Aero Design and Engineering Company before being acquired by Rockwell-Standard in 1958, changing its name to Aero Commander Inc. in 1960. The manufacturer continued under various iterations of North American Rockwell and Rockwell International until Gulfstream Aerospace acquired it in 1981. Production ceased in 1986.
Access solutions like Reach Deck Platforms and Modular Stepover Platforms provide excellent coverage for general access requirements, including the Forward Fuselage (Main Entry Door, Cargo/Baggage, Cabin Access) and AFT Fuselage sections. Specialized equipment, such as Cantilever Platforms, Super Service Stands, and Super Maintenance Platforms, offer access for detailed work on the Wing & Engine Pylon components, including the engine itself and complex hydraulic systems.
For work on the Tail Section (Vertical and Horizontal Stabiliser, Rudder) and Nose Section (Radome, Windshield & Cockpit, Avionics), platforms offer first-class, secure working environments. Platform Ladders are foundational for reaching all areas of the landing gear. Branach Fibreglass Platforms provide electrical safety for work on sensitive components across the entire airframe. These solutions support methodical and thorough maintenance across all identified aircraft sections.
