Cessna, a foundational name in American aviation, has manufactured a comprehensive range of aircraft since its origins. The company established itself as a leading builder of general aviation aircraft, known for its durable, all-metal designs.

The Cessna 402 is a light twin, piston-engine aircraft developed as a non-pressurized workhorse. Manufactured from 1966 to 1985, the 402 series—along with the related 401—was designed for small commuter airlines and cargo transport, featuring easily removable seating for cargo configuration.

The 402 originated from the Cessna 411 and had its first flight in 1965, with introduction in 1967. Over its production run, the aircraft saw key updates, including a nose stretch in 1969 for extra baggage space. A major redesign in 1979 introduced a new wing with greater span and a simpler landing gear system, leading to the designation 402C.
