The 269C-1 is a light utility helicopter, an evolution of the foundational design originally developed by Hughes Tool Company’s Aircraft Division. The prototype for the 269C series made its first test flight in March 1969. This model is recognized for its three-bladed main rotor and powerful engine, making it suitable for training, agricultural work, and various utility roles. It gained distinction as the civilian equivalent of the military TH-55 Osage trainer aircraft.
Schweizer Aircraft Corporation, the manufacturer, took over the production rights for the helicopter line, renaming it the Schweizer 300C (which includes the 269C-1 model). Schweizer was founded in 1930 and became instrumental in American glider and sailplane production before transitioning to helicopters. The company achieved a production rate of five Model 300C units per month in 1986. By 1989, they delivered the 250th 300C, reinforcing its standing as a popular and enduring light helicopter platform globally.
Various platforms and access solutions are available to support maintenance on this aircraft, addressing needs across its main sections. These include access for thorough inspections of the nose section, cabin ingress/egress, engine maintenance (including the exhaust and surrounding body), and detailed work on the tail section components such as the vertical and horizontal stabilizers.
