The Cessna 180 Skywagon is a light utility aircraft known for its sturdy performance, particularly in personal and bush flying roles. Introduced in 1953, the 180 was developed by Cessna as a more powerful complement to the Cessna 170. The prototype first flew on May 26, 1952.
Cessna, the manufacturer, produced 6,193 units of the 180 across all variants until production ceased in 1981. During its production run, the aircraft saw updates, including the adoption of the larger fuselage used by its sibling, the Cessna 185, starting with the 1964 model year. The 180 also led to the development of the tricycle-gear Cessna 182 Skylane in 1956.
The aircraft is still widely used today, a testament to its durable design. Servicing the 180 requires dedicated access solutions, enabling detailed inspections of critical areas like the tail section (empennage), landing gear, and engine components. Access solutions such as elevated platforms, modular stepover platforms, and specialized stands support comprehensive maintenance across the aircraft.
