The 1124 is known as the IAI Westwind I, a twin-engine business jet that secured a significant position in corporate and private aviation. The aircraft evolved from the earlier Jet Commander line, with the 1124 representing a powerful turbofan development. Its production was a testament to adaptation and reliability, cementing its place in aviation history.
Israel Aircraft Industries (IAI), the manufacturer, began its history in 1953 as the Bedek Aviation Company. IAI quickly became a foundational force in Israel’s aerospace and defense sectors, focusing on engineering, aviation, and high-tech electronics. Today, IAI is a government-owned corporation recognized for designing, developing, producing, and maintaining civil aircraft, drones, missile systems, and more. Production of the Westwind series, including the 1124, continued until 1980, followed by the improved 1124A Westwind II. Overall, IAI built over 400 Jet Commanders and Westwinds before shifting focus to the Astra in 1987.
Maintenance access around the 1124 is supported by a variety of platforms and access solutions. These products assist with detailed servicing across critical areas. For the Nose Section (including the Radome, Windshield & Cockpit, and Bulkhead) and the Landing Gear (Nose Landing Gear and Main Landing Gear), platforms such as the Reach Deck Platform, Modular Stepover Platforms, Cantilever Platform, and Platform Ladder Warthog are beneficial. The Wing & Engine Pylon areas (including the Engine Inlet/Exhaust, Fan, Compressor, and Turbine) are accessible via the Ultraraise and Super Service Stand. Comprehensive access solutions aid tasks across the Forward Fuselage, Middle Fuselage, AFT Fuselage, and Tail Section (Empennage).
