The anti-ice valve, foundational for the aircraft’s operation in icing conditions, is located in the engine nacelle area and requires regular inspection and servicing. This platform offers the necessary height and reach to perform these tasks efficiently and securely.
Similarly, the platform provides direct, unhindered access to the engine pylon—the structure connecting the engine to the wing—allowing technicians to conduct detailed structural and systems checks without the risks associated with improper access. Furthermore, the platform’s multi-purpose configuration extends its utility to the horizontal stabilizer at the tail section. Maintenance on the stabilizer, including checking control surfaces, wiring, and structural integrity, demands a stable working area at height.
The extended, narrow design is instrumental here, conforming to the contours of the aircraft to maximize the workspace for technicians and their tooling. For the Auxiliary Power Unit (APU) section, typically housed in the tailcone, this platform ensures safe and optimal viewing and access.
The APU provides indispensable non-propulsive power for the aircraft on the ground and in flight, supplying power for air conditioning, engine starting, and wing anti-ice functions. The perforated deck surface allows moisture, hydraulic fluid, or oil to drain immediately, maintaining a clean, slip-resistant work area and contributing to a safer environment for technicians.
To prevent inadvertent damage to the sensitive skin of the A330, the platform incorporates an EVA Foam Protective Buffer strategically placed on contact points. This soft buffer acts as a barrier, protecting the aircraft’s surfaces from scratches or dents when the platform is maneuvered into its working position. Additionally, a built-in step-up section provides personnel with a safe and secure way to gain a better vantage point, ensuring clear viewing and optimal access to the precise work area, particularly those high-reach points around the anti-ice valve and upper pylon structure.
Mobility, however, is not compromised, as the unit features heavy-duty castors: 200mm Swivel Heavy-duty Castors and 200mm Fixed Heavy-duty Castors. This configuration allows for easy and controlled movement around the hangar floor or production line. The platform’s towable design further enhances its maneuverability, ensuring quick relocation as maintenance tasks progress from one aircraft section to another.
